When the battle comes at last, Fakir has decided, it's likely to occur on rough terrain rather than in a salle with a flat wooden floor and a mirrored surface. He ought to practice his sword forms on uneven ground.
That's why Fakir has found a convenient ruined tower in which to run through his Marozzo routines.

He began by looking in the yard in front of his dorm, and the practice rooms, and then the yard behind the school (although he doesn't linger there for very long), and he was thinking of looking in the town when instead he finds himself coming to the steps of a ruined tower.
His footsteps are soft and graceful on the stairs.
Hmmm.
Fakir has a sword.
